ASIA PACIFIC CITIES SUMMIT - BUSINESS PROGRAM

Brisbane will host the 2007 Asia Pacific Cities Summit from Friday 31 August to Monday 3 September, a showcase international event focused on generating business growth, trade, investment and economic outcomes between cities in the Asia Pacific rim.

As our world becomes smaller, the Asia Pacific Cities Summit brings together hundreds of high-profile business and civic leaders and decision-makers from over 40 key Asia-Pacific cities, providing Brisbane businesses with unique exposure and facilitating further growth of business between cities.

This is the forum to network with Australian and international firms experienced in international trade and investment. The Summit is relevant for both companies already active in exporting, as well as those with aspirations to develop their international business potential.

A specialised Business Program is being held in parallel to the Summit, focusing on the industries of Building and Construction, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Professional Services, Food and Beverage, and Leisure Marine. The sector programs offer keynote speakers, panel discussions, and business exchange opportunities with prominent local and international representatives.

A particular feature of the Business Program is the business matching service that provides structured networking opportunities facilitated through Austrade to link exporters and importers in specific industries. A wide range of informal networking opportunities is also available over the 4-day program via activities and social events.

Further program and registration details are attached. Registration for the 4-day program is $1,400 (incl. GST), including access to the Sister Cities Day Presentations, or a single day ticket is $500 (incl. GST).

To ensure your place at Brisbane City Council's landmark international event, you can register at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/apcs or for further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Asia Pacific Cities Secretariat on (07) 3403 4382 or by emailing apcs@brisbane.qld.gov.au.

GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN TRENDS AND ISSUES

Globalisation is driving many new directions in trade, and positioning for economic power, influence and sustainability brings with it a more structured regime for supplier selection. Exporters can be successful, but whether that success is sustainable depends whether or not the exporter is a global supply chain partner.

This paper draws on the experience of the Author to encapsulate the issues, and assist business to better understand them.
